New Mexico State University at Alamogordo (NMSU-A) is a comprehensive community college located in the foothills, at the base of the Sacramento Mountains. This vantage point overlooks the city of Alamogordo and the Tularosa Basin. The service area of the school includes Holloman Air Force Base (HAFB), White Sands Missile Range, and stretches beyond the view to include the Mescalero Apache Reservation and approximately twenty villages and towns. Much of the south central New Mexico region benefits from the convenient location of the campus. NMSU-A is a two year community college campus accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of Colleges and Schools, and is dedicated to the concept of high-quality, cost-effective education that meets the needs of the community and diverse student population.
NMSU-A seeks an exceptional academic leader who will be responsible for providing administrative oversight of academic/instructional support personnel; development, coordination and maintenance of community and statewide partnerships in academic/instructional programming and support; leadership in revision and maintenance of operating procedures and principles regarding all academic activities; administrative leadership in fiscal growth, including but not limited to grant acquisition, for academic program growth and development; leadership in accreditation matters and statewide academic activities with HED, PED, other institutions of higher learning; leadership in representing academic issues to the President and within the NMSU system.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional leadership qualities with a successful record of leading dedicated faculty and staff; knowledge and understanding of principles, procedures, regulations, and standards applicable to a community college; willingness to understand NMSU-A’s mission, core values, vision and goals; understand the role of quality online education in higher education and the role of assessment in an educational setting; experience in maintaining budgets covering multiple academic areas and the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships; maintain accurate and orderly records; use independent judgment and initiative; organize and direct activities.
