Assistant Vice President of Human Resource Services

New Mexico State University is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Assistant Vice President of Human Resource Services (HRS). This is the NMSU system’s chief human resource officer who is responsible for directing and managing the University system’s core human resource functions. New Mexico State University is a comprehensive land-grant institution of higher learning accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities. An active research university, NMSU anchors the southern end of New Mexico’s Rio Grande Research Corridor and is classified as a Hispanic-serving institution. Home to the state’s NASA Space Grant Program, NMSU is located in Las Cruces, which features desert mesas, the farmlands of the Rio Grande Valley, and the Organ Mountains, an extension of the Rocky Mountain chain. The NMSU system is looking for a HR professional that can provide strategic and operational direction as well as leadership for human resources planning, policy and systems development. The Human Resource Services Unit includes four sub-divisions: Employment & Compensation, Benefits, Employee & Labor Relations, and the Center for Learning & Professional Development.

Responsibilities include:

  • Management of the central Human Resource Services unit.
  • Management of the central Human Resource Services unit.
  • Establishing and evaluating unit goals, objectives and procedures to maximize operational and organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensuring that services are delivered in an effective and cohesive manner that supports the needs of employees, departments as well as the institution.
  • Ensuring that the institution’s human resource administration is compliant with all laws, regulations and policies.
  • Ensuring timely and open communication with university constituencies.
  • Evaluating policy and procedures for system or process improvements.
  • Participating in planning and decision making including development of University policy and procedures.
  • Budget preparation and fiscal management.
